Scientifically known as Mauritia flexuosa, this miracle fruit is known as Buriti in Brazil, Moriche in Columbia & Venezuela and Aguaje in Peru. It contains the highest concentration of beta-carotene of any fruit or vegetable in the world. Ironically, it tastes like a carrot but has 5 times the amount of beta-carotene than carrots, sweet potatoes or spinach.

     Beta-carotene, once ingested into the is converted into Vitamin A. Some of the benefits include the prevention of night blindness, skin disorders, enhances immunity, fights against colds and flu and slows the aging process.


     Aguaje (pronounced Aug-wah-hey) is rich in phytoestrogens. This means that it has estrogenic affects. Which means that in women with normal levels of estrogen, it will increase the levels in the body. It also means that in women who have higher than normal levels of testosterone in the body, this fruit will act as a counter agent and help to suppress the testosterone while increasing estrogen levels simultaneously.

      In Peru it is believed that aguaje is the reason that in one of it's cities the women outnumber the men 5 to 1. In the Peruvian city of Iquitos, it has been calculated that 40,000 pounds of aguaje are consumed on a daily basis.
